Guest Wednesday Week 4 - Columbia Basin Water Smart!

For our 4th Guest Wednesday, we had our friend, Diana from the Columbia Basin Water Smart and she came to us with lots of knowledge about water conservation!!!

She told us a great story about her friend - Wally? - the water smart fish who goes up against the terrible water wasting dragon!! Her art work for her story was beautiful and I think the kids and I really enjoyed the story!

After the story, Diana took the kids to investigate water usage in our bathroom (sorry, no pictures!). We experimented with how much water can be wasted when we don't properly turn off the taps whilst brushing our teeth! We also used food colouring to see if there were any leaks in our library's public toilet (update: there isn't!!!).

After that Diana took out her magical map and we learnt about where our water comes from in the area! We also learned about how water is cleaned and treated before coming into our houses!

After our review of the area's water sources we went outside for some more fun!!

Diana brought with her some water balloons as well! And she also unveiled her amazing juggling skills to us all!!!

We were also joined by our library puppy, Gypsy :)

As a gift to the kids, Diana taught them the basic skill in water balloon juggling and we all tried our best to master the techniques!

We also got to get some face paint!! AWESOME!

It was great fun! We also had time to read some stories and check out some books! Thanks Diana for such a lovely afternoon!

Guest Wednesday! - Despicable Me

For the second week in a row, we had a fabulous movie afternoon in the library with the kids for our Guest Wednesday! One of my favourites, Despicable Me! Such an awesome and lovely movie! The minions are definitely one of the best things EVA!!!!

So we had the kids come into the library and served juice boxes and gummy candies for snacks! After that we just sat back and enjoyed the show!

This week for our Special Guest Wednesday we will be having Diana from the Columbia Basin Water Smart stopping in to visit us! See the previous post for more details: Guest Wednesday - Diana, Columbia Basin Water Smart!

Guest Wednesday! - Columbia Basin Water Smart! with Diana, Marnie and Ryan

Our Guests for the day Marnie, Ryan and Diana (back), with the kids for today's Guest Wednesday!
Front row kids: Tyler, Cohan, Sara, Zoe, Kyleen, Cody, Alicen, and Emily!

This week's Guest Wednesday Poster!
Yay! Today marks our second Guest Wednesday! It was great! We hosted Diana, Ryan and Marnie from the Columbia Basin Water Smart team and they came and shared water conservation tips, stories and fun planting activities for the kids today!

Alicen and Cohan making giant bookmarks!
Because of the traffic due to the construction going on the paving of the roads here in Fruitvale, I knew we would probably be running a little late today! So for the early birds we started a colouring craft of making giant bookmarks!

Emily, Kyleen and Cody colouring away!
I printed out a template I found online that goes with our space theme of the week and the kids had fun coming up with far off planets! We had planets called "Potato", "Lonemone", "Ice Cream Planet", "Red Lava" and "Cookie Planet" delicious! Once they finished decorating and writing about their planet we glued them on to tough poster board paper to give them some strength and to make 'em durable enough to hold up well as giant bookmarks! :)

Columbia Basin Water Smart! Ryan, Marnie and Diana!
Then we had our presentation from Ryan, Marnie and Diana! They introduced themselves and talked about the importance of water and how important it is to try to have the least impact on our earth for our future generations!
