After School Craft Club - May 29

Taking a group picture of kids can be hard.

So now you must endure the multiple versions of our group picture as our day can be best summed up as chaos and fun and movement!!!

For yesterday's craft club, I took on the daunting task of teaching all the kiddos how to make a origami crane! and oh boy! was it fun! I think I must've made like 30 cranes!!!

It took us the whole hour to go through making a crane!!! so funny! but the kids were very good and patient and seemed to be having a good time (I hope!)

Next week will be our last After School Craft Club from 2:30 - 3:30 pm and Carly and I are planning some fun games for the day!

Until then enjoy the pictures of the kids posing with their cranes!!

Library Children's Book Review: "Library Mouse"

written and illustrated by Daniel Kirk

Book Description (from the author's website: http://danielkirk.com/dankirkbookspread22.html)

A small creature offers his big voice for aspiring authors everywhere!
Every child can be a writer—and Library Mouse shows them how! Beloved children's books author and illustrator Daniel Kirk wonderfully brings to life the story of Sam, a library mouse. Sam's home was in a little hole in the wall behind the children's reference books, and he thought that life was very good indeed; for Sam loved to read. He read picture books and chapter books, biographies and poetry, and ghost stories and mysteries. Sam read so much that finally one day he decided to write books himself! Sam shared his books with other library visitors by placing them on a bookshelf at night…until there came the time that people wanted to meet this talented author. Whatever was Sam to do? The joy of reading, writing, and sharing is brought to life in this warmhearted tale.

Today we had a lovely visit from the local kindergarten classes, who were entertained by a tour of the library, book readings, songs and crafts!!! A fun and busy time indeed!
One of the books that Carly read today was the "Library Mouse" by Daniel Kirk.

This is such a perfect and lovely library based book about a cute little mouse that likes to write books and share his work with the library in which he lives. Each day Sam writes a new book and every morning the library patrons who discover Sam's books marvel at his new stories and books and wonder who the author is!

This is such a cute and imaginative book that really inspires others how awesome and fun writing books can be! Everyone has a story!!!

I really enjoyed the story and I think the kids liked it too, based on how intently they listened to the story! It's a great precursor to motivate kids to write and tell stories! Make sure you pick this up for your kids next time your at the library!

Here's some pictures of today's visit!

Summer Reading Club Party!!! 2012

So a year late! Here I am back from school and home for the summer! My illustrious return to the library has been ripe with many ongoing children's programs and even more books! I'm super excited to be back and to be working with a new children's librarian here at the Beaver Valley Public Library, Carly!

Yesterday was my first day and before I could make any new posts on the blog, I thought the most imperative task before posting about this years program would be to wrap up last year's summer, as I never made a proper post about the fun and shenanigans that were held to close off our summer!

So I suspect this will mostly be pictures! Enjoy!!!

One of the activities held at the park: TYE DYE!!!! Rhonda cut out templates for awesome capes and we had the kids tye dye their own alter ego superhero costumes!

We also arranged for some fun carnival games for the kids!!!

Here's a picture of some of our lovely volunteers for the day! Thank you Ashely and friend!

And of course there was lots of fun to be had at the water park! duh!

And on such a hot day, popsicles were a must.

The party was a lot of fun! We even had time to have a water balloon fight and play the classic mummy in toilet paper game!

We all had lots of fun and I look forward to this year! We shall for sure continue on with all the fun adventures and learning that occurred last year!!
